Everly, Iowa — More information has been released on the bomb threat Tuesday morning at the Clay Central-Everly school in Everly.

Clay County Sheriff Randy Krukow says his department was notified at about 9:10 Tuesday morning.  He says students were evacuated to a secure, off-site location while responding law enforcement personnel worked with the Clay Central-Everly administration and building maintenance to assess the threat and determine the appropriate protocol and actions to be taken.

He says the perimeter of the school property was secured and search teams consisting of various law enforcement officers, supported by school staff, were deployed approximately 10:55 am to make an initial, cursory search of the campus. This search was enhanced by a bomb detection K-9 unit and fire and rescue equipment and personnel were appropriately positioned.

The initial search was completed without suspicions, according to Krukow, and a search of the parking lot was immediately initiated and also completed without suspicions. A secondary search of the campus was then made, utilizing the K-9 unit. This search was also completed without suspicions and the all-clear signal was given to school administration, allowing the return of the students, according to the Sheriff.

Clay County officials say the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and they say they are confident whomever is responsible will be held accountable.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department and the Algona Police Department K-9 unit, the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Clay County Emergency Management, Everly Fire and Rescue and the City of Everly Public Works Department.
