Orange City, Iowa — Do you plan to retire someday? Most of us do, but will you have enough money and investments to keep you going? That’s the topic of two upcoming workshops in Orange City.
The first one, called ‘Welcome to Retirement: Will you be ready?’ is on Tuesday, January 24th, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Sioux County Extension and Outreach office meeting room in Orange City.
We talked to Jan Monahan, who is the workshop presenter and is an ISU Extension and Outreach human sciences specialist in family finance. She tells us about it.
She says that the workshop includes a hands-on activity that enables participants to get a taste of all the variables that affect retirement well-being.
She says some participants come away reassured that they are on the right track, while others leave with motivation to step up their retirement savings.
One of the variables you’ll have to take into account in retirement planning is how long you will live. Monahan says there’s even a tool for that.
She says they’ll also have a number of brochures and other resources available for you to take home.
Monahan says the other workshop, “Writing Your Retirement Paycheck,” is a two-session workshop. The first session will be held Tuesday, January 24th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sioux County Extension and Outreach office meeting room in Orange City. The second session will be held at the same time and place the following Tuesday, January 31st.
She says “Writing Your Retirement Paycheck” is designed to provide those approaching retirement with the information they need to be prepared to ‘write their own paycheck.’ The workshop outlines key factors to consider prior to retirement and describes strategies for structuring retirement income.
According to Monahan, topics will include health costs, Social Security, inflation, required minimum distributions, annuities and more.
