According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, about 12:15 PM, the Ireton Fire Department was called to the report of a chicken confinement fire at 2017 470th Street, four miles west of Ireton. He says the building is owned by Center Fresh Eggs.

The chief says the smoke was visible as they left Ireton. He says they saw flames and heavy smoke as they made entry into the building and put out the fire.

Steckelberg says no injuries were reported.

He says he was told a power washer started the fire.

The chief reports that the Hawarden Fire Department provided assistance.

There was significant damage to the building’s wood frame, says Steckelberg, but the building didn’t have any chickens in it at the time.

He says they used 4,500 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for an hour and 45 minutes.
