Primghar, Iowa — A garage and a car were destroyed in a fire on Friday, May 13, 2016 in Primghar.
According to Primghar Fire Chief Gary Lansink, about 6:10 AM, the Primghar Fire Department was called to the report of garage on fire near First Street Northwest and McCormack Street in central Primghar. That’s about a block west of the courthouse.
The chief says the fire department saw the garage was fully engulfed as they approached the scene, and a car in front of the garage was also on fire. He says they used water to fight the fire, but the building’s tin exterior and tin roof made the fire hard to fight, and they ended up getting a backhoe and tearing the building apart to put out all the flames. The nearby house also sustained heat damage, especially to its vinyl siding.
No injuries were reported.
He says while there were people in the garage less than an hour before the fire call, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Chief Lansink reports that both the garage and car were totaled.
He says they used about 7,000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about three and a half hours.
