Kurtz: Iowa Traffic Fatalities Up 24% From The Same Period Last Year

Fatal AccidentNorthwest Iowa — Traffic fatalities are up drastically so far this year, compared to the same time last year.  More than 140 people have lost their lives on Iowa roadways so far this year.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz appeared on the KIWA Morning Show earlier this week, and talked about the increase in fatalities over last year.

Kurtz says there are two main causes for the spike in the number of traffic deaths.

He says that wearing your seatbelt can help save your life in a crash, but there is another factor accounting for a large part of this year’s rash of fatal crashes.

Trooper Kurtz says that we need to remember that each and every one of those statistic numbers represents a real person who is no longer there with their family.

He reminds motorists to buckle up every time they get in the car, and if you plan to drink, please use a Designated Driver.
