Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says that 38-year-old David Cyril Wilson of Orange City was sentenced on June 27, 2016, in Sioux County District Court for the crimes of Possession of Child Pornography, Eluding a Law Enforcement Vehicle, Assault on a Peace Officer, and No Contact Order Violations. Wilson had previously been sentenced for Indecent Contact with a Child in 2014.

On September 23, 2014, police spotted Wilson, who had an arrest warrant, drive-off without paying for gas in Orange City. Police attempted to stop Wilson, but he failed to stop and a high-speed pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of in excess of 100 mph. Police radioed ahead and an officer deployed spiked stop-sticks across the roadway. Wilson approached and angled his vehicle toward the officer standing on the road side. Believing Wilson was attempting to run him down, the officer ran for cover. Wilson swerved back into his lane at the last moment. The stop-sticks damaged tires on Wilson’s vehicle and he was eventually stopped and arrested. Police executed search warrants on Wilson’s cell phones and found he violated a previous No Contact order and possessed multiple images of child pornography.

Wilson was sentenced to ten years in prison on all charges, in addition to criminal and civil fines. Wilson also must register as a sex offender for life, and is required to submit a DNA sample for profiling.
