Sheldon, Iowa — Authorities have now released the identity of a driver who was killed Thursday afternoon when his pickup left the roadway and struck a tree south of Sheldon.
Troopers say 79-year old Terrence Hodgen of Granville was northbound on McKinley Avenue about a mile south of RV Central when his Dodge pickup, for unknown reasons, left the roadway and struck a tree. Hodgen, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say no other vehicles were involved.
The investigation is continuing.

Sheldon, Iowa — One person is dead in the aftermath of a single-vehicle crash south of Sheldon on McKinley Avenue Thursday afternoon.
Iowa State Troopers say that the accident happened when a vehicle was northbound on McKinley Avenue, and for unknown reasons, entered the east ditch and struck a tree. Troopers say the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the O’Brien County Medical Examiner.
Troopers say the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and that no other vehicles were involved.
Identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Police Department, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon EMA, Sioux County Sheriff’s Office Sheldon Fire and Ambulance, and the O’Brien County Medical Examiner.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
