Orange City 3rd Safest City In Iowa, Says Safewise.com

Safest-Cities-in-Iowa-BadgeOrange City, Iowa — People who live in Orange City might sleep a little better tonight, knowing that their city, with it’s 0.16 per 1,000 residents violent crime rate, and 6.12 per 1,000 residents property crime rate, has earned Orange City the ranking of 3rd Safest City in Iowa, from the website safewise.com

The website says that in order to identify Iowa’s safest cities, they reviewed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2014, along with population data.  They eliminated all cities with fewer than 3-thousand residents, as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.  They say that, from there, they evaluated the remaining cities, narrowing it down based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery), and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city.  To further level the playing field, the website says they calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1-thousand people in each city.

The only two cities that were rated safer than Orange City in the report were Waukon, at #1, and Eldridge at #2.  Orange City was the only city in northwest Iowa that rated in the Top 20.

Other area cities in the Top 100 in Iowa include: Cherokee at #32, Sheldon at #50, Le Mars at #64, and Spencer at #66.

In case you wonder, the least safe city in the Top 100 was Clinton.
