The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:44 PM, 44-year-old Cheryl Kroese of Sanborn was driving a 2001 Chrysler school-owned van transporting students for the Hartley‐Melvin‐Sanborn Community School District, westbound on Highway 18 at Perkins Corner, two miles west of Hull. They report that 29-year-old Eric Kats of Rock Valley was driving a 1993 Honda Civic westbound on 18 behind Kroese; and that 25-year-old Justin Dekkers of Ireton was westbound behind Kats in a 2005 GMC pickup.

According to the report, Kroese stopped the school van for the stop sign at Highway 75. Kats stopped behind Kroese and was struck by Dekkers. The impact caused the Kats Honda to strike the school van Kroese was driving.

The Hull Ambulance crew transported a passenger in the school van, 15-year-old Trinity Lux of Sanborn to the Sheldon Hospital. Kats reported minor injuries and sought medical treatment on his own.

The Chrysler school van sustained about $500 in damages, says the Sheriff’s Office. They say the Honda and the GMC sustained an estimated $2,500 in damages, each.

Dekkers was cited on a charge of following too closely.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Hull Ambulance crew assisted on the scene.
