Sanford Nurse Practitioner: More Flu Cases This Year

Sheldon, Iowa — With winter comes “sick season”, that time of year when it seems as if the entire northwest Iowa population is suffering from everything from colds, sinusitis, and sore throats, to influenza.

Sanford Sheldon Nurse Practitioner Karissa Getting works in the Emergency Department at the hospital, and says they’re seeing more cases of influenza so far this year.

Getting says the severity of the influenza this year varies from patient to patient.

She says that, with all the different sicknesses making the rounds this year, it’s often difficult to tell if you are suffering from the flu, or something else.

Getting says the two biggest factors to help you get over your illness more quickly are rest and hydration.
