sheldon-logo2-175x170Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School Board of Education met in two separate sessions last night, ending one fiscal year with the first meeting, and beginning another with the second.

The Annual Meeting, which began at 6:00 pm, was a time for the old Board to wrap up the business of the 2014-15 year.  At 6:30, the Board met for their annual Organizational Meeting.  Board Secretary LaDonn Hartzell administered the Oath Of Office to the three members who were elected in September’s School Board Election.  They are Kecia Hickman and Mark Brown, who were both reelected to their positions, along with Jessica Brink who was elected to fill the seat formerly held by Glen Goedken.  Geodken didn’t seek reelection in September.  The new Board then elected Kecia Hickman to continue as Board President, and Susan Rensink who will continue as Board Vice President.  Kecia Hickman was appointed to represent the Sheldon District on the Sioux County Conference Board, with Randy Merley appointed to the O’Brien County Conference Board.  Susan Rensink was designated to continue representing the Board on the Sheldon Educational Foundation.  The Board then opted to continue with the current schedule for their regular monthly meetings, which will be the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm in the High School Library.

In other action, The Board approved a trio of Open Enrollment Applications for students open enrolling into the Sheldon Community School District.  They accepted the resignation of Mrs. Mason as a Para Educator at the middle school, and approved the employment contracts of Steve Waldstein as Middle School Boys’ Basketball Coach at a salary of $2,345, as well as contracts with Angie Clark and Rachel Olson as pat-time Middle School Instructional Associates.  Each will be paid at the rate of $9.00 per hour.

Tom Whorley of Wolff, Whorley, De Hoogh and Schreurs was named the District’s attorney for the upcoming year.  The Board also named depositories for District funds for the next 12 months.  Citizen’s State Bank will be the Primary Depository, with Northwestern Bank, Iowa State Bank, Ashton State Bank and Peoples Bank also being named as depositories.  Each institution will be allowed a maximum balance of 4-million dollars of District funds.

The Board’s next regular monthly meeting will take place at 6:00 pm Wednesday November 11th, and will be held in the Sheldon High School Library.
