Sheldon Election Write-In Vote Breakdown

Sheldon, Iowa — We told you about the results of Tuesday’s Special Election, but now we have more information beyond the total number of votes cast.

According to the O’Brien County Auditor’s Office there were a total of 21 write-in votes for the position of Mayor during Tuesday’s election. One of the individuals collecting write-in votes Tuesday had also been one of the original four residents to express an interest in being appointed Mayor earlier this year. Bob Engel received 10 write-in votes for Mayor Tuesday. Others receiving write-ins for Mayor were Kurt Strouth who’s name was written in on one ballot, Ron Rensink who received 4 write-in votes, Randy Ping was written-in on 1 ballot, Caleb Schreurs received 2 write-ins, with Leon Kleinwolterink, Kory Kaiser and Corey Elgersma each receiving 1 write-in vote for Mayor.

For the At-Large City Council position, Caleb Schreurs received 4 write-in votes, Joshua Kraayenbrink had his name written-in 1 ballot, with Bob Engel receiving 1 write-in vote. There was one other write-in City Council vote, but election officials say the name written-in was illegible.
