Sheldon Superintendent Search Moves Forward

Sheldon, Iowa — Much of Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Sheldon Community School Board was occupied in discussion about the search process for hiring a new Superintendent to replace Robin Spears, who is scheduled to retire next summer.

A representative of Grundmeyer Leader Search, the company hired to recruit a new superintendent, met with the Board and discussed several topics involved in the search. It was decided that the application period for the position is to begin immediately, and run through January 14th. A Community Forum will be held January 25th, followed by a closed session meeting of the School Board to review applications.

As part of their discussion of the superintendent’s position, the Board set on a salary range for the position from $140-thousand to $160-thousand, The Board also made it clear that applications from current District personnel will be accepted.

In other action, following a Public Hearing on the proposed 2018-19 District Calendar, the Board approved that calendar.

The Board approved an Open Enrollment Application that will see one 4th grade student move from the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Schools into the Sheldon District.

The Sheldon School Board accepted a pair of employee resignations at Wednesday’s meeting. The first was from Middle School Custodian Terri Meyer. Jessica Stofferan resigned as JV Softball Coach, but that was to pave the way for Stofferan to take over as Head Softball Coach, at a tentative salary of $5,624. In other personnel notes, the Board approved the hiring of Andrew Flaherty on a semester contract as a High School Social Studies Instructor, and approved the hiring of Ludwin Aran-Marroquin as a Technology Technician at a salary of $18.00 per hour.
