Sioux Center, Iowa — The Board of Directors of Sioux Center Health has announced that a Nebraska man has been hired to serve as the new administrator of Sioux Center Health.
Cory D. Nelson most recently served as CEO of Genoa Medical Facilities in Genoa, Nebraska.
Brian Van Engen, board president of Sioux Center Health says that the board was blessed with many exemplary and qualified candidates. He says that it was a thorough and challenging interview process. Van Engen says they received meaningful input from their medical staff, senior leaders, and community members, and says, “We’re all elated to have Cory join us as our new CEO. He’ll be an ideal person to ensure our continued success.”
Van Engen added that the search committee’s priorities focused on finding an energetic, inclusive leader who possessed rural community experience. In Nelson, he said they found a CEO who engages effectively with communities, understands the Sioux Center Health mission of service and who can provide clear vision for the future of healthcare.
Sioux Center Health officials say that Nelson earned his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, and a master’s degree in public administration from The University of South Dakota. They say he served in several positions within the South Dakota Department of Corrections before working as the CEO of the South Dakota Human Services Center in Yankton, S.D. for a decade. He also formerly served as a hospital CEO in Phoenix, and as the deputy director of Arizona’s Department of Health Services.
The other two finalists for the position were Barry Whitsell, the president and CEO of Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon and Ryan Meyer, the assistant vice president and vice president of operations for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Iowa — a three-hospital system in Cedar Falls, and affiliated with the Mercy Health Network.
