Rock Valley, Iowa — Shortly after 3:00 pm Saturday, Sioux County Communications Center received a 911 call of a drowning at the swimming beach of River’s Bend Campground in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton, officers arrived, and were informed that 31-year-old Anthony Boyenga of Ellsworth. Minnesota was swimming with his children when he went under the water and could not be located.
Warburton says emergency first responders searched the waters and the Sioux County Dive Team was called to the scene. He says rescue efforts were hampered by poor water clarity making visibility near zero. Around 3:50 Saturday afternoon a diver for the Sioux County Dive team located Boyenga. The Chief says resuscitation efforts began at the same time Avera Care Flight arrived at the scene to assist. Sadly, Warburton says, those efforts were unsuccessful and Boyenga died at the scene.
The Rock Valley Police Department was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, Sioux County Sheriff’s Department, Sioux County Dive Team, Sioux County Conservation, and Avera Care Flight, as well as countless bystanders that volunteered their efforts.
