The Orange City Police Department reports that about 5:09 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, 63-year-old Preston Reagan of Orange City was driving a 2015 Chevy van westbound on Fourth Street Northeast, three blocks east of the old hospital building. Fourteen-year-old Karli Bomgaars of Orange City was southbound on Concord Avenue Northeast on a 2014 KYMC moped.

The report says that Reagan says that the sun bothered him and he did not see the moped. Bomgaars says she did not see Reagan’s van either. A witness who was driving her own moped and was riding with Bomgaars says she saw the van and was able to stop.

The Orange City Ambulance took Bomgaars to the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

Reagan’s Chevy van sustained $3000 in damages, and Bomgaars’s KYMC moped sustained $2000 in damages, which was enough to total the moped.

Reagan was charged with failure to yield right of way at an uncontrolled intersection.
