Area Teams Open State Volleyball Tourney Play on Wednesday

Northwest Iowa — Four area volleyball teams open State Tournament play on Wednesday. MOC Floyd Valley will be the first as they square off against Mt Vernon at noon in the Class 3A quarterfinals. Western opens Class 2A play at 2pm with Unity on the floor at 4:00. In Class 1A LeMars Gehlen begins play at 6pm.

In Class 3A MOC Floyd Valley is the #3 seed with a record of 28-7. They open against 6 seed Mt Vernon who comes in at 27-15. The Dutch are led by senior Zoe Heemstra with 73 ace serves and a serve efficiency of .937. She also leads the team in blocks with 82. Sophomore Jazlin De Haan is the kills leader at 363. Senior Jadeyen Schutt leads in assists with 666 while sophomore Kiernan Groendyke leads the team in digs with 248.

In Class 2A Western Christian is the #2 seed with a 39-5 record. They meet 7 seed Treynor who has a record of 33-7.
Senior Madison Hofman leads the Wolfpack with 62 ace serves with a serve efficiency of .966. She is also the digs leader with 504. Junior Macay Van’t Hul leads the team in kills with 273 and blocks with 117. Junior Olivia Granstra is the assist leader with 570.

Unity Christian is the 4 seed in 2A at 30-6 on the season and will meet 5 seed Dike New Hartford who has put together a record of 35-12. Senior Corrina Timmermans and sophmomore Janie Schoonhoven share the team lead with 45 ace serves each. Timmermans is the kills leader with 417 and digs leader with 281. Senior Erin Wieringa is the assist leader at 838. Senior Jori Bronner leads the Knights in blocks with 62.

LeMars Gehlen is the 2 seed in Class 1A. The Jays take a record of 27-4 to the State Tournament. Senior Anna Britt leads the team in ace serves with 58 and assists with 354. Senior Katie Peters is the kills leader with 228. Junior Chloe Bunkers leads the team with 228 digs while senior Katelyn Langel is the blocks leader with 79. Championships in all classes are set for Friday at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
