De Ruyter To Run For Northwestern

Emily De Ruyter of Rock Valley has signed a letter of intent to continue her running career at Northwestern College next fall.

De Ruyter recently completed a standout, four-year career running for the Boyden-Hull / Rock Valley Cross Country team. De Ruyter finished among the top 15 runners at the Siouxland Conference meet all four years, earning all-conference honors four times. She has a personal best of 21:02. Also a letter winner in softball, basketball and track and field, De Ruyter was an all-conference selection in basketball and qualified for state in both softball and track. A member of the National Honor Society and Northwest Iowa Review All-Academic Team, De Ruyter plans to major in Sociology at Northwestern. She is the daughter of Dave and Jill.

“We are thrilled to have Emily join our women’s cross country team,” commented Northwestern Head Coach Scott Bahrke. “She is a very talented runner who brings top-notch work ethic to our program. Emily is extremely competitive who will fit in well with the other ladies on our team.”
