Nighthawks Down Orabs in Siouxland Softball Thursday Night

Sheldon Iowa — The 6th ranked Boyden Hull Rock Valley Softball Team combined hot bats and some costly Orab errors as they downed Sheldon 13-0 in a three inning contest Thursday night at Orab Field.

The Nighthawks opened the scoring in the first inning as Taylor Richter led off with a single and came in on a 2 run homer over the right field fence by Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag for an early 2-0 lead.

In the second inning Richter hit a 2 out double to right field and scored on an rbi single by Brianna Kleinwolterink. Kleinwolterink came in to score on a Van Der Zwaag double and the score was 4-0 in favor of Boyden Hull Rock Valley.

A 9 run third inning brought the game to an early end. The inning was keyed by a 3 run homer off the bat of Brooke Zylstra to left. It scored Emma Zoet running for Keely Swanson and Erica Pottebaum who had singled ahead of Swanson. Richter and Joanne Luevano drove in 1 run each in the inning as well.

With the win The 6th ranked Nighthawks run their record to 17-1 on the year and 7-1 in the conference. Sheldon is now 5-8 for the year and 4-4 in the Siouxland. Up next for the Orabs is a Friday night home game against West Lyon. The Nighthawks return to action with a weekend tournament hosted by West Sioux.
