Orabs Sweep The Hawks

Hartley, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs were able to sweep the HMS Hawks Thursday night in non-conference action. The Orab girls were able to hold on to win 37-33, and the Sheldon boys won their tenth straight game 79-51.

The Sheldon girls started the contest on an 8-0 run, but HMS then went on a 5-0 run, and after one, Sheldon led, 10-7. Sheldon extended their lead at the break, leading 24-13. After three, Sheldon’s lead was 28-18. The Hawks then tried to make a comeback. HMS was able to get to within three with under a minute to go, but Emily Meyer was able to ice the contest from the free throw line. Sheldon came away with the 37-33 victory.

Sheldon got a game high fourteen points from Brooklyn Grady, while HMS had a game high fourteen from Olivia Japenga.

Sheldon improves to 3-10 on the year, while HMS falls to 6-6 on the season.

The boys contest was a battle in the paint for the Orabs. Sheldon had a 22-14 lead after one, and Ryan Van Marel had ten first quarter points. The battle down low kept going in the second quarter and the Orabs extended their lead to 41-20. Kyle Boerhave had sixteen first half points. The second half was a clinic from long distance. Both teams hit a combined ten three pointers in the second half. After three, Sheldon’s lead was 64-34, and the Orabs went on to win 79-51.

Sheldon had three players in double figures. The Orabs got a game high twenty-seven from Boerhave. Van Marel added nineteen, while Jaden Kleinhesselink had thirteen. The Hawks got a team high fourteen from Cade Schiphoff.

Sheldon improves to 11-1 on the year, and HMS falls to 5-6 on the season.

Up next for the Orabs is a road contest Friday night against Boyden-Hull. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn plays host to Trinity Christian Friday night.
