Rock Valley Sweeps the Orabs

Sheldon Iowa — Rock Valley swept a basketball double header from Sheldon Friday night. The girls game went to Rock Valley 58-44. The boys final was 66-47.

The Rockets led at all the breaks in the girls contest. They were up 17-5 at the end of the first quarter and 32-19 at half time. At the end of three the lead was 47-28 as the Rockets went on to win 58-44.

Rock Valley had three players in double figures getting a game high 18 from Lizzy Blum. Emily De Ruyter hit for 14 points with Lexie Van Kekerix adding 12 points.

Sheldon was led by Brooklyn Grady with a 16 point night. Reagan Freeman and Emily Meyer had 8 points each.

With the win Rock Valley improves to 10-3 on the season and 8-2 in the conference. Sheldon is 4-9 on the season and 2-9 in the Siouxland.

In the boys contest the Rockets trailed 18-15 at the end of the first quarter but overtook Sheldon to lead 35-26 at the half. The two teams traded buckets in the third quarter and going into the fourth quarter the lead remained at nine points 46-37. Rock Valley would go on to secure coach Wade Vander Maten’s 100th win 66-47.

The Rockets put three players in double figures with Brayton Van Kekerix hitting for a game high 18 points. Jaxon Rus was next with 16 while JT Van’t Hul pumped in 14 points. Sheldon was led by Mitchal Wolf with 15 points. Tyler Lode hit for a dozen.

With the win the Rockets are 8-4 on the year and 7-3 in the conference. Sheldon is now 2-10 for the year and 1-9 in the Siouxland Conference.

Sheldon returns to the court with make up double header Monday at home against South O’Brien. Rock Valley is back in action with a home double header Tuesday night against Central Lyon.
