West Lyon Downs Western in 2A District Semi

Larchwood Iowa — A pair of big innings propelled West Lyon to a 19-4 home win over Western Christian in a 2A District 1 semifinal at Larchwood Tuesday night. With the win West Lyon will host West Sioux Saturday night in the District final. The Falcons downed Unity 4-0 in the early game also played at Larchwood.

Western Christian got on the board first with a run in the first inning. Zach Van Essen walked and later scored on an rbi single to center off the bat of Kobi Baccam to give Western the early 1-0 lead.

West Lyon responded with a 6 run first inning. The key hits were a 2-run double by Trevor Reinke and rbi singles from Jalyn Gramstad, Jackson Kramer and Thadd Myrlie.

The Wildcats erupted for a 13 run third inning to take a 19-1 lead. Key hits were a 2-run single and a 1-run single from Josh Van Beek as the Wildcats batted around the order in the inning. Jalyn Gramstad had a 2-run single as well. Isaac Brugeman and Trevor Reinke also had rbi singles in the inning.

Western Christian put three runs on the board in the top of the fourth as Evan Wibben doubled and later scored the first run of the inning. Kobi Baccam singled and scored. Matthew Van Otterloo drove in a run with a single and scored the final run of the   contest.

Isaac Brugeman went 3 innings for the win. He gave up 2 hits in the first inning followed by a pair of no hit innings. He struck out the side in the second inning. Jalyn Gramstad came on in relief to pitch the fourth inning.

With the win West Lyon improves to 27-1 on the year and will meet 19-5 West Sioux for the District title on Saturday. Western Christian ends the year at 9-19.
