Northwest Iowa — State Tournament Basketball berths are scheduled to be decided today in Class 1A and 2A all across Iowa. Our broadcast game will feature the 2A Substate 2 match up between Sheldon and Alta Aurelia from SPirit Lake. Pregame is set for 6:45 with opening tip at 7:00. Sioux Center Iowa — The George Little Rock Mustangs will play for a 1A State Basketball tournament berth on Saturday night. They claimed the District 1 title with a 54-38 win over LeMars Gehlen at the Sioux Center High School Gym Thursday night. They go against South O’Brien who won the District 2 Championship game with a 55-46 win over Newell Fonda Thursday night in Cherokee. The Substate final is set for the MOC Floyd Valley Gym Saturday night with a 7:00 pm scheduled tip off.
Northwest Iowa — Boys basketball District titles were decided in Class 1A with a semifinal match up on the schedule in the upper bracket of Substate 1 in Class 3A. Our broadcast game featured the 1A District 1 Championship. It was G-LR and LeMars Gehlen from the Sioux Center High School Gym.
Northwest Iowa — Girls State Tournament basketball berths were up for grabs with a trio of games that were rescheduled from Monday. Our broadcast game featured the 2A Region 1 Championship from the HMS High School Gym.
Hartley Iowa — #10 North Union upset #4 Western Christian 50-48 in the Class 2A Region 1 Girls basketball title game at the Hartley Melvin Sanborn Gym Wednesday night. The Wolfpack had tied the game at 48-48 with time running out in the fourth quarter North Union held for the final shot and a desperation hook shot by Hallie Reese made the Warriors a winner 50-48 as the buzzer sounded. From just inside the arc on the right wing Reese’s shot went high off the glass and in to send North Union to the State Tournament.
Orange City Iowa — Northwestern College dropped one spot in this week’s edition of the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball coaches’ poll released Tuesday by the national office.
The Red Raiders slipped to 11th in the Feb.20 poll after losing to No.18 Dakota Wesleyan last week in Mitchell, S.D. They came back with a road win against Doane over the weekend to close the regular season with a 23-5 overall record, 13-5 and tied with Briar Cliff for second in the GPAC standings. Northwestern, the third-seed in the GPAC postseason tournament, joins four other GPAC teams in this week’s top 25; Morningside (6), Briar Cliff (9), Dakota Wesleyan (18) and Hastings (RV).
