Orange City Iowa — The results are in for this years Orange City Tulip Festival Road Race. Mark Scallon of Orange City won the 5k in a time of 18:04. The 10k went to Jeffery Jeltema of Orange City in 36:04. The fast time in the 1 mile walk was 7:55 posted by Carter Van Gelder of LeMars.
Des Moines Iowa — Friday marked Day 2 at the State Track Meet in Des Moines. State titles were earned by Mikayla Turek of Unity in the 2A 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:03.89. The boys 2A 400m Hurdles went to Ethan Albright of Okoboji in 54.52. Grant Brouwer, Sibley-Ocheyedan won the 1A Boys High Jump at 6-09.00. Sheldon’s Keri Siebrecht won the 2A 800 Meter Wheel Chair in 3:08.81. Matt Haken of George Little Rock won the 1A Discus with a toss of 144-07. The Class 1A Girls 4×200 went to Central Lyon in a time of 1:46.53. Team members include Sutton Schlumbohm, Regan Van Wyhe, Elle Petersen and Callie Yeakel.
In the latest girls soccer rankings from the IGHSAU, Spencer retains their four spot in Class 2A, while Unity Christian falls out of the 1A rankings.
Northwest Iowa — State qualifying for boys golf was set for Thursday in Class 1A, 2A and 3A. Area 1A players were at Fort Dodge hosted by St Edmund. 2A players were at Emerald Hills hosted by Okoboji while area 3A golfers were at Spencer hosted by the Tigers.
Soccer was on the schedule for Thursday. SSO girls were on the road to Heelan.
Thursday was day one at the State High School Track meet in Des Moines. Among the highlights for area athletes was a new 2A meet record for Western Christian in the Girls 4×800. Bailey Nelson, Macay Van’tHul, Emilee Heynen and Olivia Granstra combined to post the record time of 9:24.76. The old record was 9:25.23.
