Nine Boat Operators Charged with BWI During Operation Dry Water

Des Moines – The June 22-24 boating safety check, Operation Dry Water, made contact with more than 540 vessels and nearly 2,100 boaters, producing nine boating while intoxicated charges and 136 boating citations or warnings on seven Iowa waters.

The most common citation was for not maintaining a proper speed or distance while operating a vessel.

The Iowa DNR and partnering agencies increased boat patrols on Storm Lake,the Mississippi River at the Quad Cities, Coralville Reservoir, Saylorville Reservoir, North Twin Lake, Missouri River, and Mississippi River near Dubuque, during Operation Dry Water.

With the July 4 holiday falling on a Wednesday, the Iowa DNR will continue its increased lake patrols through the weekend.

The Fourth of July holiday is the busiest time for boating on Iowa waters.

 

 


Sheldon Orab Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader, Softball Team Drops Two

he Sheldon Orabs hosted a pair of doubleheaders Monday night. In baseball Sheldon opened with a 4-0 win over Okoboji in a makeup contest before falling to Central Lyon 14-2 in a 5 inning regularly scheduled game. On the softball diamond Sheldon dropped a pair to Okoboji on scores of 5-0 and 12-0 in three innings.

On the baseball side Sheldon’s 4-0 win over Okoboji was highlighted by a 2 run 4th inning as Trevor Johnson singled in Brandon Frick and Grant Weaver to put the Orabs up by the final margin of 4-0. Logan Otis earned the win with a complete game three hitter while striking out 7.

In the second game Central Lyon opened with a 4 run first inning as they used 4 hits to score 4 runs along with a sac fly.

Sheldon scored their runs in the bottom of the first as Trevor Johnson and Joe Kuiper laced back to back 2 out singles. Chad Den Hartog plated them both with a double to the left field corner.

Central Lyon added a run in the second and broke it open with a 5 run third inning. The big hit was a 2 run double off the top of the fence in centerfield by Luke Grooters. The Lions added two more in the 4th inning and another pair in the fifth to make the final 14-2.

Chris Ladd gave up two runs on just 3 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Mitch Jensen went the first 3 and a third innings for Sheldon and was charged with the loss. Brennan Vote went 2 thirds of an inning with Brandon Frick finishing up.

With the win Central Lyon improves to 14-10 on the season and 8-6 in the Siouxland. With the double header split Sheldon stands at 10-14 got year and 6-7 in the Siouxland.

The Orab baseball team will host Sibley Ocheyedan in a varsity only game tonight with a 7pm start time.

The Orab softball team opens tournament play at home against George Little Rock Central Lyon. We’ll bring you the broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3 with pregame at 6:50 for a 7pm first pitch.

Final IHSBCA Polls Out In 1A And 2A

The Final IHSBCA Rankings for Class 1A and 2A are out. Class 3A and 4A will have final rankings released next week. The final 1A poll is topped by Mason City Newman while Davis County sits on top of the 2A poll. Ankeny leads the 4A poll with Dallas Center Grimes topping the 3A poll. Only two teams from the area made the polls with Sioux City Heelan number 2 in the 3A poll and LeMars rated 8th.
