Feenstra joins letter to USTR on Brazil’s ethanol tariff

IARN — Earlier this year, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Chamber reinstated an import tariff on American ethanol shipped to Brazil. Prior to this announcement, American ethanol exports to Brazil had been duty-free since March of 2022. Now, there is a 16% tariff rate on ethanol this year, which will increase to 18% in 2024.

Fast forward to last month, and 21 members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to urge her to address these unfair trade practices and protect U.S. farmers and biofuel producers. Iowa Congressman Randy Feenstra was part of that group, and he said it’s important that they make sure that other countries won’t take advantage of the U.S.
