Iowa corn harvest 84% finished, soybeans 95%

IARN — Iowa farmers continued their 2021 harvest during the week ending November 7th and were able to wrap up in some parts of the state.

The weekly Crop Progress and Conditions Report late Monday afternoon showed Iowa’s statewide corn harvest is 84 percent complete, four days ahead of the five-year average. Moisture content of field corn being harvested for grain was 17 percent. Only farmers in south-central Iowa have over one-quarter of their corn for grain crop remaining to be harvested.

USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey provides a corn harvest progress update for the rest of the country.

“Starting with the U.S. corn harvest for the week ending November 7th, we saw a nice 10-point advance during the week to reach 84 percent overall,” said Rippey. “Stayed ahead of the five-year average of 78 percent, but somewhat behind last year’s 90 percent. We were led by Colorado with a nice advance of 17 points from 68 to 85 percent harvested. Wisconsin came in number two and led the Midwest.”

Iowa’s soybean crop is 95% harvested, according to Monday’s report. That’s three days ahead of the average pace. While soybean harvest is nearly complete in much of the state, farmers in the southwest and south central districts have over 10 percent of their soybean crop still to harvest.

Rippey has a detailed look at the nation’s soybean harvest progress.

“If you look at the major 18 soybean production states, almost half of them (8) were able to achieve double digit harvest progress during the week,” said Rippey. “We were led by North Carolina with a 14-point advance from 43 to 57 percent. Leading the Midwest was Missouri with a 12-point advance from 59 to 71 percent harvested.”
