Damaged Trees Workshop in Orange City

August 18 @ 3:00pm - 7:30pm

The City of Orange City will have a Damaged Trees Workshop Monday, August 18th.

This workshop will help people assess damaged trees. John Duntsma from the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is delighted to hear from and assist the community.

While this will be applicable for trees damaged by the recent wind storm, it will help staff assess trees damaged by other ice, snow and wind events. There will also be tips on how to preserve salvageable trees. The presentation will not go over an hour.

Our presenter will be the Iowa DNR district 9 forester from Onawa, Sarah Bell. Sarah’s role will not be to look at a pile of photos and say “this one should go, that one should stay.” Her role is to help equip local people to make those decisions. Factors will likely include location of the tree, its appearance, value to the community and more. She will also touch on suitable replacement trees.

Our plan is to have a public event at 6:30 p.m. We will have a special one hour program at 3 p.m. for city, county and park employees. Both events will take place on Aug. 18 in the ISU Extension and Outreach office, 400 Central Ave. NW, Orange City.

We would like to have you register so we can get an idea on the number of people attending. To register go to:
