History of the Great Plains and practices of Native Americans

Sioux County Conservation has the pleasure to host a unique program Saturday, September 6th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with returning presenter Michael Wanbdi Gdeska (Spotted Eagle). In this presentation, Michael will connect the natural history of the Great Plains with cultural practices of Native Americans in this region.

Michael, a member of the Ihanktonwan Oyate (Yankton Sioux) tribe, will share his experience from a Native American perspective in developing a spirtual relationship with all of creation. It will include the sacred ceremony of Azilya (smudging) He will use members of their plant nations and drumming songs during the ceremony. A light snack and Lakota message will be shared.

Michael’s paintings and artwork will be featured.

Due to a sponsorship by Sioux County Conservation Foundation, cost is only $10 per person.
