The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host an Open House to present new preliminary floodplain maps to Lyon County citizens.

The Open House will be held on Tuesday, February 25th, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Lyon County Courthouse Conference Room located at 206 S. 2nd Ave in Rock Rapids.  This meeting is open to the public.  Property owners are encouraged to attend to learn about potential changes in their flood risk.

The preliminary floodplain maps for Lyon County reflect how the county’s risk to flooding may have changed.  Learning about potential changes to your community’s flood risk can help to protect lives and property.

The maps are currently available for review on FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center website at https://msc.fema.gov and at www.iowafloodmaps.org.
