For the position of Milk Hauler: You will be utilizing AMPI tractor and trailer, transports raw milk from farm to processing plant or trucking terminal. Ensuring proper technique, principles, and procedures required by the dairy industry, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the cooperative.

  1. All AMPI employees have an obligation to report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to personnel of authority.
  2. This position has a heightened food safety and food quality responsibilities.
  3. Operates a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and AMPI rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices
  4. Following schedule and directions from location supervisory personnel, travels to location to transport raw milk
  5. Transfers raw milk from farm containers to trailer
  6. Takes quality and control samples at farm
  7. Measures milk loaded into trailer
  8. Follows designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel
  9. Takes measures to minimize truck idle times and conserve fuel consumption
  10. Maintains positive communications with producers, listens for issues or potential problems, reports producers’ comments to transportation and member services management
  11. Represents AMPI positively and professionally at all times during interactions with producers, customers, or regulatory personnel
  12. Maintain proper documentation in all formats of recordkeeping
  13. Assist with general cleaning and housekeeping throughout the plant as needed
  14. Adhere to all aspects of company and customer safety, sanitation and site policies.
  15. Assists with training new employees;
  16. Adhere to all Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
  17. Adhere to all Safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
  18. Adhere to all GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity

Must have a current CDL (Class A) in state of residence.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a tanker endorsement.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • An acceptable Motor Vehicle Report is required and must have a minimum of one year recent tractor/trailer experience.
  • Two years of recent tractor/trailer experience is preferred
  • Must meet all DOT requirements.
  • Must be able to work a schedule of 4 days on and 2 days off, with rotating days off.
  • MVR: AMPI will not consider applicants that have more than 1 chargeable or preventable motor vehicle accident within the year preceding the date of application.
  • AMPI will not consider applicants that have more than 1 conviction for violations of motor vehicle laws (other than violations involving parking only) within the year preceding the date of application.

Farm – Work is performed in a vehicle and on a farm. While performing the duties and tasks of this position, the employee will occasionally have to lift, carry, push, pull, climb, stoop, balance, finger, handle, and reach. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently have to walk and stand. Must be able to climb three feet of steps.

Farm (Field Service and Hauling)–  Employee will work outdoors while loading and unloading goods. Employee will work indoors while driving or completing paperwork. Employees are often exposed to contaminants, such as diesel fuel or exhaust fumes and airborne particles. Employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and wet work conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to very warm and very cold temperatures depending on the outdoor climate in respect to the upper Midwest region. Employee may be exposed to chemicals. The noise level is moderate.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Personal protective equipment is required depending on the job being performed, including protective eye wear, or face shields, hearing protection, hair and beard nets, uniforms and footwear. Additional equipment is required when working with chemicals, such as rubber gloves and use of chemical proof aprons as appropriate for the job being performed.

For the position of Maintenance Technician: The Maintenance Technician ensures that all equipment is operating effective and efficiently, must be able to install, repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance.  Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.

  3. Provide maintenance support effectively and efficiently.  Timely respond to maintenance related issues, quickly resolve problems and make necessary adjustments as need to maintain employee safety, product integrity and production efficiencies.   
  4. Ensures safe operations through adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and procedures.  Follow all lockout tagout, fall protection and confined space requirements.
  5. Strict adherence to housekeeping, by maintaining clean work areas, and tool accountability.
  6. Ensures operation of plant equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.  Follows diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications.  Responsible for the startup, operations, shutdown and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operations of plant equipment.
  7. Installs, repairs, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance.
  8. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation.
  9. Dismantles machinery and removes/replaces defective parts.
  10. Determines changes in requirements of parts by inspecting and measuring various instruments.
  11. Maintains inventories of equipment parts and supplies by checking stock.
  12. Trains production workers on routine preventive maintenance.
  13. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  14. Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  15. Ability to operate machinery and technical equipment.
  16. Knowledge of system maintenance.
  17. Ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
  18. Familiarity with safety standards and regulations.
  19. Reports to supervisor/manager.
  20. Works with more senior technicians to gain knowledge of equipment and repair.
  21. Effectively pass-down to next shift personnel, unfinished repairs and unresolved maintenance/production issues.
  22. Participation in the Emergency Response program is required.
  23. Adhere to all Quality and Food Safety, Employee Safety, and GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work, including lockout procedures and confined space entry procedures.
  • Must have proven working knowledge of electrical/mechanical skills and have operational knowledge of basic tools and equipment.  PLC experience a plus.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an ability and willingness to communicate effectively in order to maintain high levels of Safety, Quality and Efficiency.
  • Must have high level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures and company guidelines in order to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the products manufactured and the processes involved.
  • Thorough understanding and broad application of safety regulations, standards, principles, theories, and techniques.

  • Completion of respirator fit testing and training is required

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Associates Degree from a two-year college in a related technical field or certificate or diploma from a trade school.
  • Prior maintenance experience in food manufacturing, preferably the dairy or cheese industry, is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of skilled experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work, or other combination of education and experience.
  • CMMS maintenance tracking software experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s OSHA and loss control programs is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and understand graphic instructions, blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts or other visual and electronic aids is highly desirable.

Manufacturing – Work is performed in a manufacturing plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee will frequently have to walk and stand. The employee should have the ability to regularly lift up to 55lbs.  The employee must be able to push and pull up to 75lbs. Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations above 4 feet. Employees are regularly exposed to cold temperatures when performing tasks in storage areas. Employees are regularly exposed to warm or hot temperatures with moderate to high humidity levels varying based on the location of the work area. The employee is regularly exposed to wet walking surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally at a high level. The employee is not routinely exposed to weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to very low levels of ammonia.
