Knowledge Nugget:

The contraction “Ya’ll” is widely considered to be slang from the American South, when it was first used there in the mid 1800’s. This is not the only place “Ya’ll” is used, as it is used other places around the globe, including South Africa. The American South is not the first place “Ya’ll” was used, and it is much older than the 1800’s when it showed up in the American South. It was used in dramatic or poetic works dating back to the 17th century and published in London. The earliest “ya’ll” that could be easily found was in a book by William Lisle, published in 1631, where he wrote “and this ya’ll know is true.”
