35-40 Round Cornstalk Bales Destroyed In Rock Valley Area Fire

Rock Valley, Iowa — Between 35 and 40 cornstalk bales were destroyed in a fire on Monday, April 7, 2025, near Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, at about 5:45 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a bale fire at 3563 Eagle Avenue, five miles south, a mile west, and a half a mile north of Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department saw 35-40 cornstalk bales on fire as they approached the scene. He says they transported the bales to a field, doused them with water, and a tractor was used to disk around them to limit the spread of the flames.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Hull, Sioux Center, and Ireton fire departments, who brought water to the scene.

He says that someone had been burning some grass and control of the fire was lost, and it spread to the bales.

Chief Eshuis reports that the damage was limited to the bales.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
