Alton Man Charged With Theft, Accused Of Theft Of Sheldon Resident’s Vehicle

Alton, Iowa — An Alton man has been arrested on a felony theft charge after a deputy found him driving a Sheldon man’s car.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 22-year-old Dalton DenHartog-Hopcroft of Alton is accused of being in possession of the stolen vehicle. He was arrested on Wednesday.

In his statement, the deputy alleges that DenHartog-Hopcroft was in possession of and was operating the victim’s vehicle, which had been stolen from Sheldon. The previous day, he was charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated, driving while barred, and on a warrant for assault displaying a dangerous weapon.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the felony charge on June 25th.

At last report, DenHartog-Hopcroft remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 bond on the felony charge, and $4000 on the misdemeanor charges.
