Le Mars, Iowa — An Alton man faces a felony charge in Plymouth County after he allegedly was in possession of a firearm as a felon and provided false information.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office reports that earlier this week, they stopped a black Chevrolet Suburban near 200th Street and K49, just south of the east side of Le Mars. Deputies made contact with the driver, 31-year-old Hipolito Zaragoza Jr. of Alton. But Zaragoza allegedly gave them a false name. The passenger was identified as 34-year-old Ellen Denholm of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Deputies conducted an investigation and Denholm was arrested for a felony warrant out of Woodbury County.
Zaragoza was charged with failure to provide proof of financial liability, failure to have a valid driver’s license, and failure to yield right of way. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle later on in the evening. Zaragoza was later charged with possession of methamphetamine 1st, possession of marijuana 1st, and a weapons violation. Then, after further investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, they determined that Zaragoza had given a false name. Zaragoza was then charged with additional crimes such as felon in possession of a firearm and providing false information.
