Alton Man Injured In Friday Afternoon Collision

Alton, Iowa — An Alton man was injured in a three-vehicle collision at an Alton intersection during the noon hour on Friday.

According to a report from the Orange City Police Department, the crash happened when a 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by 15-year-old Madison Schwarck of Orange City was southbound on 5th Avenue. Police say Schwarck failed to obey a yield sign at the intersection with 10th Street and struck an eastbound 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 60-year-old Daniel Greving of Alton, causing Greving’s SUV to come to rest on the ramp of a trailer attached to a 2021 Ford F-350 pickup, owned by Sioux Commercial Sweeping, Inc of Sioux Center, which was legally parked on 10th Street.

Greving went to the Orange City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while Schwarck was uninjured in the collision.

Damage to Schwarck’s Nissan was estimated at $5500, with Greving’s SUV sustaining an estimated $6500 in damage. No damage was reported to Sioux Commercial Sweeping’s pickup and trailer.

Authorities say Schwarck was cited for Failure to Obey a Yield Sign.
