Ames Man Flown To Sioux Falls After Accident Near Alton

Alton, Iowa — An Ames man was flown to a Sioux Falls hospital as the result of an accident on Saturday afternoon near Alton.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4:35 p.m., 19-year-old David Copley of Ames was driving a 1991 Ford Ranger northbound on Kiwi Avenue, four miles southwest of Alton, when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the west ditch and rolled.

The Orange City Ambulance took him to Orange City Area Health, and he was later flown to Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls for further treatment of injuries.

The Ford sustained about $8,000 in damage.

Copley was cited on a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The Orange City Police Department, Orange City Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Alton Fire Department, and the Alton Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
