Ireton, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Thursday, December 30, 2021, in Ireton.
According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, about 11:15 a.m., the Ireton Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 203 Fourth Street in Ireton.
The chief says the fire department saw heavy smoke and flames in the kitchen. He says they used an interior attack with a single hoseline to fight the fire.
Steckelberg says everyone got out fine and no injuries were reported.
He says the occupants were using a propane blackstone griddle in the house, which was the cause of the fire.
The fire department was assisted by Hawarden firefighters who automatically respond to structure fires in Ireton.
Chief Steckelberg reports that there was extensive damage to the kitchen, and smoke damage throughout the house. He says the structure was not livable after the fire.
Steckelberg tells us the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
