Both Drivers Ticketed After Sioux Center Area Crash

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Rock Rapids woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash north of Sioux Center during the wee hours Wednesday morning.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that the mishap took place shortly before 12:30 Wednesday morning, two and three-quarter miles north of Sioux Center on Highway 75.

Deputies say 26-year-old Jessica Chin, of Rock Rapids, was northbound on Highway 75 in a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero and 20-year-0ld Sieranna Bazaldua, of Boyden, was backing a 2006 Saturn Ion from a residential driveway on Highway 75. Chinn told deputies she attempted to avoid striking Bazaldua’s car, but due to a mechanical failure on her vehicle, was unable to avoid the collision.

Chinn was reportedly transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to each car is estimated at $3,000.

Both drivers were ticketed as a result of the crash; Chin for operating a motor vehicle with defective brakes, and Bazaldua for failing to yield right of way.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Police Department.
