Larchwood, Iowa — A Brandon, South Dakota man was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital after a crash in extreme northwest Lyon County early on Friday morning, April 7th, 2017.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:10 a.m., they received a report of an accident near the state line by Gitchie Manitou State Preserve. They report that Waylin Buss of Brandon, South Dakota was driving a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500 pickup southbound on 481st Avenue in South Dakota and failed to negotiate the 90-degree curve to the east at the state line onto 100th Street in Iowa.
The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle entered the front yard of a home, struck a tree and a large landscaping rock and came to rest on its side up against a tree.
The Lyon County Ambulance took Buss to Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
They say the GMC sustained heavy damage and is a total loss.
The landscaping sustained approximately $2000 in damages.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says the Larchwood Fire Department, Larchwood EMS, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, and Erwin’s Towing of Hills, MN assisted them with the response to the accident, which they say remains under investigation.
