Sutherland, Iowa — A Cherokee man has been arrested on sexual exploitation charges after a sting in Sutherland.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sutherland Police Department, 74-year-old Leon Klotz of Cherokee is accused of engaging in a conversation with an undercover police officer whom he believed to be a 15-year-old, and coming to meet them for sex. He was arrested on Wednesday.
Klotz was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, a class B felony and grooming, a class D felony. If convicted of a class B felony, he could face up to 25 years in prison, with five years in prison if he’s convicted of a class D felony.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Monday, February 23rd.
Klotz was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, and was released the next day after posting bond.
