Inwood, Iowa — Firefighters were kept busy for four hours, and cornstalks in a shed were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, near Inwood.
According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, at about 3:30 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of cornstalks on fire at 2244 Cherry Avenue, a mile and a third northwest of Inwood.
When they got there, the chief says the fire department saw the commodity shed had smoke coming out of it. He says they doused the stalks with water, then pulled them out of the commodity shed to make sure they were out and there were no hot spots.
Van Beek says no injuries were reported.
The Larchwood Fire Department assisted the Inwood firefighters.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Chief Van Beek reports that the building was saved, but the cornstalks were destroyed.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about four hours.
