Doon, Iowa — A Doon man faces a felony charge after a recent search of his property.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of District Court, 51-year-old Timothy Erickson of Doon is a registered sex offender in the state of Iowa. He allegedly failed to notify the Sheriff of Lyon County of a change in relevant information within five business days.
The complaint says Erickson purchased a travel trailer over a year ago, in September 2020, and failed to register it as a vehicle on his sex offender registry. According to the complaint, Erickson also allegedly failed to notify the sheriff’s office that he was actually living in the camper on the yard at his registered address instead of in the house. The complaint alleges that Erickson had been warned in the past about the timeliness of registering vehicles that are purchased. Sex Offender Registration Violation is an aggravated misdemeanor.
Where the felony count comes in is that, according to the complaint, Erickson is a convicted felon from North Dakota from 2017 on a case of Patronizing a Minor for Commercial Sexual Activity, which is a class A felony in North Dakota. A search warrant was executed at Erickson’s Doon area home, and a handgun was allegedly found in a box under the mattress in the sleeper of his semi truck. The deputy filing the complaint wrote that two magazines and 26 rounds of live ammunition were also found in the box. Possession of a firearm by a felon is a class D felony in Iowa.
