Fire Causes Major Damage To Rock Valley Home

Rock Valley, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 4:50 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire near 19th Avenue and 15th Street, in northeast Rock Valley.

The chief says the fire department saw flames coming from the window on the east side of the house by the front door and a lot of smoke from the eaves and soffit area of the house as they approached the scene. He says they mounted an exterior attack, then an interior attack. He says the fire had extended into the attic. They cut a hole in the roof for ventilation. He says they also had to tear ceilings down to get at the fire.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported, but the home is not livable at this time and has sustained major damage.

Hull and Sioux Center firefighters assisted the Rock Valley firefighters at the scene.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. He did say that the Fire Marshal’s office was to investigate the fire scene this Friday.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene between two and two-and-a-half hours.
