Fire Destroys 20-30 Round Bales Near Hull

Hull, Iowa — 20-30 straw bales were destroyed in a fire on Saturday, February 22, 2025, near Hull.

According to Hull Fire Chief Greg Van Roekel, at about 2:50 p.m., the Hull Fire Department was called to the report of a bale fire at 2658 Ibex Avenue, four miles north, one east, and a half a mile north of Hull. (Actually north of the county line, in Lyon County)

The chief says the fire department saw 20-30 bales burning against a machine shed as they approached the scene. He says that with the assistance of a couple of payloaders and their operators, they brought the burning bales out to a field and spread them apart.

Van Roekel says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Rock Valley and Doon firefighters.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Chief Van Roekel reports that 20-30 round straw bales were lost in the fire. The shed received minimal damage as well.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for a half hour to 45 minutes.
