Ashton, Iowa — A machine shed was destroyed in a fire on Sunday, April 14, 2024, near Ashton.
According to Ashton Fire Chief Andy Gacke, at about 6:00 p.m., the Ashton Fire Department was called to the report of a machine shed on fire at 5296 230th Street, about two miles east of Ashton’s north side.
The chief says the fire department saw the machine shed fully engulfed with heavy flame as they approached the scene.
Gacke says no injuries were reported.
The Sibley Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance.
He says the farmer had been burning the ditch and the fire got away from them and started the machine shed on fire.
Chief Gacke reports that the building was totaled but there was nothing of great value inside.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
