Rock Valley, Iowa — A minivan was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 2:30 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire near 2992 Fig Avenue, in eastern Rock Valley. That’s about three-tenths of a mile north of the old Green Acres Drive Inn.
The chief says the fire department saw flames under the hood as they approached the scene, and the fire had just begun to breach the firewall into the passenger compartment. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Eshuis says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined but it started in the engine compartment.
Chief Eshuis says one good thing was that the minivan was parked outside, on the driveway, and was not in a garage. So while the fire totaled the minivan, the damage was limited to the vehicle.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 25 minutes.
