Fire Destroys Powerwashers, Trailer Near Primghar

Primghar, Iowa — One person was burned and two powerwashers and a trailer were destroyed in a fire on Saturday, December 30, 2023, near Primghar.

According to Primghar Fire Chief Gary Lansink, at about 9:30 a.m., the Primghar Fire Department was called to the report of a trailer fire at 6047 420th Street, three miles south and a mile and a half east of Primghar.

The chief says the fire department saw flames rolling out the back of the trailer and blowing toward the building as they approached the scene.

Lansink says one person who had been working in the trailer was burned in the blaze.

He says they pulled the trailer away from the hog building and put it out with water. He says they also applied some foam because the fire kept reigniting due to leaking gas cans and tanks on the powerwashers.

He says the cause of the fire may have been a malfunction or perhaps someone filling a powerwasher with gasoline spilled some on the exhaust and it ignited.

Chief Lansink reports that the powerwashers and 10-foot enclosed trailer were totaled.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 40 minutes.

A few days later, on Tuesday, January 2nd, the Sioux Center firefighters were called to AgriVison Equipment for the report of a gas leak. Fire Chief David Van Holland says they did evacuate the building. He says firefighters stood by and the Sioux Center Municipal Gas Department was called. He says they were there for about 20 minutes. No fire or explosion was reported.
