Rock Valley, Iowa — A business shop and office at the Rock Valley Hay Auction was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2023, in Rock Valley.
According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, at about 9:00 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a fire at the Hay Auction in eastern Rock Valley.
The chief says the fire department saw heavy fire and smoke as they approached the scene.
Eshuis says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Hull and Sioux Center fire departments. Sioux Center was asked to respond with their aerial truck.
He says the cause of the fire is officially undetermined, but the building did have security cameras, so that might help determine how it started.
Chief Eshuis reports that the 40×60′ steel building and its contents, including an office area, a semi-tractor, a service truck, an ATV, and shop items were all destroyed in the blaze.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about three hours.
