Fire Destroys Rural Sioux Center Shed

Sioux Center, Iowa — A small shed was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, near Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, about 3:40 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of an outbuilding on fire at 3668 Highway 75, about two miles north of the Sioux Center McDonald’s.

The chief says the fire department saw a 20’x30′ shed fully involved in flame as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Van Holland says no injuries were reported.

He tells us Hull firefighters assisted them, and that the Rock Valley Fire Department was originally paged as well, but he told them they could disregard this time.

He says the occupants had been burning in a burn barrel, and that fire got out of control, which started the shed on fire.

Chief Van Holland reports that the shed was a total loss, but the damage was limited to the shed, and its contents were of little value.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for an hour or two.
